d3 housing Tomorrow 2013 Competition

In order to achieve the goal of a net zero house, it is important to look at how architects facilitate optimization of designs in the early stages of the design process. The importance of defining a workflow during the early design stage has been realized, which sets a stage for introducing performance based design analysis and decision support tools. Using the single-family housing project as a case study, a workflow was created that allowed decision scopes and design inquiries to translate into simulation strategies. The house is based on a cubic volume that has been scooped out in order to create interior and exterior spaces, creating equilibrium with the surrounding. Light Zone as a concept: The staircase is the core of the house, which acts both a light source as well as ventilating chimney. It is like the campfire, which is surrounded by non-lit spaces that compliments the visual connectivity and recreates a mediating platform. The overall goal is to make connections to the various spaces in the house using a fundamental tool, daylight.

Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A Project

A conceptual design for landside and terminal facilities including an arrivals/departure area of the terminal, enclosed pedestrian bridge connection to the new terminal, a 3,000 space multi-level parking garage with surface parking, an enclosed pedestrian connection to the existing P1 AirTrain station, and a "Hub" building connecting all three. The design has been developed in parallel with the design of the new Terminal A, the roadways, landside utilities, and a new PSE&G substation adjacent to the garage.
